Isle Royale Wolf Translocation


Between February and March 2019, 11 wolves were captured, collared, and translocated from Ontario to Isle Royale National Park, Michigan as part of a partnership between the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF) and the United States National Park Service (USNPS). Members of our research team, including Brent Patterson, Ashley McLaren, Mike Allan, and Scott Taylor worked with the USNPS to plan and deliver on this initiative.






February 28- March 1, 2019

Four wolves, 2 from Michipicoten Island and 2 from mainland Ontario near Wawa, were captured and successfully translocated to Isle Royale National Park, MI.

March 22-23, 2019

Thanks to additional funding by the International Wolf Center and the National Parks of Lake Superior Foundation, an additional 7 wolves, 6 from Michipicoten Island and 1 from mainland Ontario were captured and successfully translocated to Isle Royale National Park, MI. These wolves joined their pack mates that were moved to Isle Royale National Park in late February.
